Dan Furman Takes Over Piano at Open Mic
David Epstein plays July 6, Furman steps in August 3
Change is
coming to Open Mic! For years, David Epstein was our
regular pianist for Open Mic. As you probably know, Open Mic at Singers Forum
isn't like an open mic at your local coffee house. Our focus is on singers,
with provided piano accompaniment. From jazz to standards to pop to classical,
we see a variety of singers come to the stage. And David can play it all, no
rehearsal, supporting the singer so they feel safe and free to explore in their
performance.
Lately, due to great developments in his life and career,
David's schedule has become a little too tight to accommodate our monthly Open
Mic. However, before he turns the reins over to a new pianist, he will be back
with us one more night, Friday, July 6.
Starting the
next Open Mic, August 3, Dan Furman will be
taking over as our new regular pianist for Open Mic. Dan has been with Singers
Forum for several years, and has played for a variety classes, including
Cabaret Workshop, Get Your Act Together, and
The Art of the Performer, as well as stepping in at Open Mic
here and there. He has his own jazz trio and also performs regularly with The
Primordial Jazz Funktet. Dan has provided music direction for a number of
cabaret shows, and is a versatile accompanist, proficient at many styles and a
strong support for the singer. We're extremely please to welcome Dan as our new
regular accompanist, and we know you'll love him, too.
You can check out
David's and Dan's bios at the faculty page on our website for more info.
