Singers Forum Appoints New Artistic Director
New York, NY 10/24/05 -- Singers Forum, a New York vocal academy celebrating 27 years next month, has found a new artistic director in multi-talented artist Don Rebic. Mr. Rebic is an accomplished conductor, pianist and composer with a history in Broadway, the national stage, television and film.
The search for a new artistic director began this spring after the sudden passing of Singers Forum’s Executive Director, Philip A. Campanella. After a lengthy vetting process, Mr. Rebic was chosen from a small pool of qualified candidates to help Singers Forum grow and expand to meet the needs of New York’s performing arts community.
Jeffrey M. Priore, Esq., Managing Director of Singers Forum says “Don is just the person for the job, and we look forward to a long working relationship with him.”
Mr. Rebic is the musical director for the workshop of Terrence McNally’s new play “Some Men,” running October 24-November 5, and will be with Mary Cleere Haran at Feinstein’s At The Regency during the same period as pianist and musical director. Next month, he is scheduled to work with Valerie Lemon in St. Louis and Karen Akers at the Kennedy Center. Mr. Rebic has also worked as an accompanist for such stars as Betty Buckley, Regis Philbin, Dixie Carter, Leslie Uggams, Peggy Lee and Dame Kiri Te Kanawa. As a composer, he has co-written scores for HBO and the off-Broadway show Flypaper.
Singers Forum was founded in 1978 by Andy Anselmo and John Albert Harris to be a training center for the vocal arts. Over the years, the Forum has always been located in the historic Flat Iron District, and recently moved to 49 West 24th Street in Manhattan. Singers Forum has been a classroom to professional performers including Liza Minnelli, John Leguizamo, Brooke Shields, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Stritch and Amanda Green. Master Classes have been offered at the school by Lucine Amara, Maxene Andrews, Julie Wilson, Dick Gallagher, and Tovah Feldshuh, among others. The school also offers a Youth Scholarship Program for at-risk youth, as well as Community Outreach Concerts for seniors and hospitals.
