Hook, Line & Singer Starts July 17

Actor-director-teacher Eric Michael Gillett brings a new kind of class to Singers Forum in "Hook, Line & Singer: Interpreting Contemporary Pop" starting Monday, July 17.

This is a class for both the gifted amateur and the aspiring professional.  Unlike classes that deal simply with lyric interpretation, acting the song, and vocal techniques, this course is geared specifically to the needs of the singer exploring contemporary pop music from the 50s to the present, including The British Invasion, Power Ballads, Grooves, Motown, the Folk-Rock Phenomenon, etc.

The focus of the class is expanded beyond acting and vocal techniques to include identifying and utilizing pop "hooks", as well as recontextualizing songs to create a dramatic and interpretive focus for the repeated lyric, as it often appears in contemporary pop. The goal in each class is to assist the aspiring singer in the process of interpreting modern material and in helping them meet the vocal and stylistic demands of the contemporary pop/rock music catalogue.

Dan Furman will be the musical director.

Hook, Line & Singer: Interpreting Contemporary Pop
Mondays, 8:00-11:00 pm
7/17-8/25/06 (7 classes)
$350, $55/single class
