Eric Michael Gillett
|
Another class starting Session 4 soon is Hook, Line & Singer: Interpreting Contemporary Pop with Eric Michael Gillett, with musical director D. Jay Bradley. Hook, Line & Singer is a different kind of class. Unlike classes that deal simply with lyric interpretation, acting the song, and vocal techniques, this course is geared specifically to the needs of the singer exploring contemporary pop music from the 50s to the present, including The British Invasion, Power Ballads, Grooves, Motown, the Folk-Rock Phenomenon, etc. The focus of the class is expanded beyond acting and vocal techniques to include identifying and utilizing pop "hooks", as well as recontextualizing songs to create a dramatic and interpretive focus for the repeated lyric, as it often appears in contemporary pop. The goal in each class is to assist the aspiring singer in the process of interpreting modern material and in helping them meet the vocal and stylistic demands of the contemporary pop/rock music catalogue. Bottom line: this class is interactive, challenging, and will help you see the same old tunes in a brand new light! Mondays, 8:00 - 11:00 p.m. 4/30-5/21, 4 classes (no class 5/7 - make-up date TBA) $200/$55 per single class
