Faculty & Friends at The Cabaret Convention

Of the many styles of vocal music our students concentrate on, cabaret is definitely a favorite.  So, we are pleased that several of our faculty members and friends will be appearing at The 18th Annual New York Cabaret Convention, sponsored by The Mabel Mercer Foundation, November 5-8.

Barbara Fasano, teacher of Sing the Truth and Anselmo Award recipient, will be performing  at the "Centennial Celebration" on Wednesday, November 7.  Our friend Julie Reyburn is receiving the Julie Wilson Award (named after the teacher of many a Singers Forum master class, who will also perform), and Eric Comstock (Sing the Truth) is being honored with an award named for former faculty member Dick Gallagher. Don Rebic, our Artistic Director, will be playing for Valerie Lemon that night, and for Karen Akers -- this year's Anselmo Lifetime Achievement Award winner -- on November 8.

For more information on the event, please visit The Mabel Mercer Foundation's websiteCongratulations to Eric Comstock and Julie Reyburn and good show to the rest of our friends!

Eric Michael Gillett in Frankenstein

Eric Michael Gillett, who teaches vocal technique as well as performance and audition skills here at Singers Forum, really knows how to get into the Halloween spirit!  This Thursday, November 1, he joins the cast of the  Off-Broadway musical Frankenstein in its opening night at 37 Arts.

The press release explains: "Frankenstein is the story of the rebel scientist who challenges the laws of nature and morality when he breathes life into his inanimate creature. Faced with intolerance and adversity, the scientist’s creation rebels against the world around him, ultimately destroying the very man who gave him life."

This production of  Mary Shelley's classic story is a serious-minded musical, and stars Tony-award winning Hunter Foster as the original "mad scientist," Victor Frankenstein.  Eric Michael Gillett plays his loving father, Alphonse, and is featured in a solo ballad in Act I, which he reprises in Act II.  Tickets are reasonably priced and available through Ticketmaster.com.

Open Mic Sees Changes

Come join us for a new take on Open Mic!  We're moving the fun to the Cabaret Room and providing snacks and sodas to enhance your enjoyment of our monthly singers' showcase.

Dan Furman will be at the Yamaha grand piano, and John Koprowski emcees the event.  Sign up begins at 7:30 pm, and the first singer will go on at 8:00 pm.  Please bring two songs with sheet music in your key.  The fee is $10 for singers and $5 for observers.  This is a great opportunity for you to work on your material in front of an audience and with a fantastic accompanist.

We look forward to seeing you there!

They're Baaaaaaack!  Teachers Return from Tour

November is finally just around the corner, and we are happy to welcome back two of our teachers who have been performing out of town.

Christopher Temporelli has been Toronto, Ontario, performing with the Opera Atelier there.  He returns the week of November 12 to teach private technique lessons.  If you are interested in setting up a lesson with Christopher, call the front desk and they'll make sure to put you in touch with him.

Jerome Harmann-Hardeman has been all over the country this fall, performing in Man of La Mancha, as well as his own show.  He returns to teach Session 2 of "Beyond the Classroom" Performance Workshop, which starts on November 13.  Call or stop by the front desk to sign up!

Welcome back, guys!
